Senior Systems Engineer

11/1996-8/1997

I was the project leader of a team that had evaluated, recommended and implemented a new solution that consisted of replacing all multiple network interface cards on every server with a ATM switch. The solution provided eliminated the huge amount of downtime from occurring when the server would ABEND. With the new ATM switch in place users were still able to access the mainframe they were just not able to access any NetWare resources. It was a $70k investment at the beginning however, the return on investment was substantial, the ATM switches paid themselves off within two months time. This responsibility required me to brief the Master Chief and Captain of the division weekly on the progress of the conversion. I also along with the Master Chief of the IS department met and selected the vendors we would use to implement the solution.

Appointed team leader of four members on the migration of 1500 users from NetWare to Windows NT. I with my team came up with a solution that would solve our problem of getting GroupWise 4.1 and Microsoft Exchange users the ability to communicate with each other on the same network.

This solution allowed us time to convert users in groups as opposed to doing the whole site all at once saving Bureau of Naval Personnel a tremendous amount of funds for training and overtime hours of constant troubleshooting and maintenance.
